IFS Therapy

Internal Family Systems, or IFS, is a therapy approach that uses the concept of Inner Parts. A recent study has shown IFS Therapy as being effective in treating the pain and depression in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients.  Not surprising to any IFS Therapist as there has been years of case-based evidence of how effective IFS is with clients that have anxiety, depression, eating disorders, mood issues, PTSD, or other mental health issues.

IFS Psychotherapy really finds the root causes of compelled behaviors, and unwanted outcomes in a person's life. However, it does not only give insight, IFS has the ability to unpack and unwind old issues in a way whereby the person is able to make lasting changes in a pretty transformative way.

IFS Therapy has been in the Professional Psychotherapy Work for the past 30 years and was founded by Richard Schwartz, PhD. It is holistic counseling with a mind body therapy approach.  There have been numbers articles and books written on this effective therapy modality.

The Model works with Inner Parts to heal their stuck places in you. Basically, it is like having a part of you stuck in a younger worldview and perspective. Think how limiting it could be to have a 4 yr. old worldview running your relationships in your life, or being the CEO of YOU!

As we work to respect and listen to the parts from their own perspective, and also work with the other parts that don't really want you to listen to or respect them, a few things happen.  Just by the fact that you can sense parts means you are the neutral observer, and this is how we begin to grow you to a place of Self Leadership.

It is that neutral observer that is the Self, which is much more that just the sum of all the parts. The Self is able to be curious instead of critical, compassionate towards parts instead of exiling hurt parts away to avoid them.

All of this work is done safely so as to respect the timing and pacing of the entire system. This is one of the main reasons why is works. We are not going in there to convince any parts of anything or "try hard to make change happen."   We work from in an authentic and natural unfolding, one part at a time.

We work to care about each part no matter their role. There are no bad parts, just parts who went through something extreme and developed an extreme role based on the conclusions they derived from that extreme situation.  This may be difficult at the thought of it. As your counsellor, I am there to guide you to come into more Self Energy, and this will make more sense as the process evolves.

Patti Bee, M.S., LPC, NCC has been trained in IFS and she is also Certified in Brainspotting.  Patti combines these two powerful psychotherapy approaches for a  result-based psychotherapy experience to heal and transform whatever issue you would like to look at. Patti Bee is a Holistic Counselor of IFS and she enjoys supporting her clients with this Mind Body Counseling approach.

The concept of Inner Parts in poignantly depicted in the upcoming Disney Pixar Movie, Inside Out.  The trailer does not show IFS Therapy per se, just the idea of the inner parts in our psyche.  And it is also a really funny film clip. Enjoy!

Patti offers a FREE, 30 minute Phone Consult to ask questions and see if this IFS and Brainspotting are a good fit for you.  Please Call Patti Today!

Patti has also trained in Dreamwork and Shamanism.  Both of these help in the psychotherapy process as the work of inner parts is sometimes compared to lucid dreaming.  Or, creating your life through a dream.  And your sleeping dreams may start to speak to you as we do the IFS work, and this can be incorporated then, into looking at dream work in the therapy process.  Dreamwork Madison WI is very much accepted here with me as your psychotherapist.

If you are looking for a Jungian Therapist and that is not available in Madison WI, then IFS is a very good alternative. Patti Bee is a counsellor that incorporate many levels and dimensions in her work. And the actual process of the counselilng is very much a hypogogic visualization state very akin to dream work.
